Last weekend was a real treat for fans of South Asian culture, as the Mela took over the city and Kavya Rang Multilingual Poetry Group held their annual Kavi Sammelan (a traditional Indian poetry recital).

On Saturday, a group of poets who’d travelled from India were given a tour of Newstead Abbey by poet Becky Cullen who had previously held a residency there. They then performed to a large audience in Nottingham Castle’s palatial Long Gallery. Then on Sunday, under a warm sun, a more al-fresco performance saw our director Sandeep Mahal formally welcome local multilingual poets before two sessions of poetry in myriad languages.

Look out for our account of the events on our website within the next couple of days
